DISEGNO INTERNO – EVA ŠVANKMAJEROVÁ / JAN ŠVANKMAJER

The exhibition, which will take place in the year of Jan Švankmajer’s 90th birthday, will present all the creative areas in which this world-famous surrealist artist has intervened (collages, graphics, objects, book illustrations, media drawings, tactile experiments, collecting and, of course, film). The central theme of the project is the so-called disegno interno, or “inner arrangement”, i.e. the artist’s imaginative understanding of the essence of a given subject. It is a principle that in Švankmajer’s conception combines Rudolphian mannerism and the surrealist “inner model”. An important part of the exhibition will also include a presentation of the painting work of the artist’s wife Eva Švankmajerová (1940-2005), who has been in a unique dialogue with the work of Jan Švankmajer to this day. A rich accompanying programme will be devoted to both the key and less expected themes with which Švankmajer’s extraordinary imagination worked and continues to work.
