Ancient Worlds of Zdeněk Burian

An exhibition of 44 original paintings by the world-renowned pioneer of paleoart Zdeněk Burian from the collections of the Moravian Museum. The paintings will feature Burian’s most famous prehistoric themes, which he created from the 1940s to the 1970s under the guidance of leading Czech paleontologists such as Prof. Josef Augusta, Prof. Zdeněk Špinar and Dr. Vratislav Mazák. The exhibition will present iconic and lesser-known works by the author spanning geological periods. Through oil paintings and gouaches, which will be accompanied by fossil exhibits, the visitor will be transported back tens to hundreds of millions of years, from Paleozoic trilobites or tree-like floats and horsetails, through Mesozoic dinosaurs, pterosaurs and ichthyosaurs to Cenozoic mastodons, rhinoceroses and elephant birds.
